AU!: I kind of sort of made up this AU, since I have no idea what it
is. It sort of falls into a Kingdom/Empire AU! and a Military AU!, so
I'm sorry if this is very confusing.

Chapter Summary
10 years ago, the betrayal of one of the strongest soldiers yet, and
the death of a beloved General.
                                    *Edited

Central Empire, Japan     Year: 784 (Approx. 10 Years Ago)
                                  December 20
Two knocks. Usually represented by an individual that's there to harm
you, but in this case it was for an entirely different reason. Ushijima
Wakatoshi, like always, just gives off the wrong message, but General Ukai
Ikkei knows. From inside his large and grand office, resting on the comfortable
chair that's positioned behind the white, wooden desk with old ancient carvings
on it, he called out. "Come in, Ushijima." The response was immediate. Ushijima
Wakatoshi emerges from behind the large wooden door, entering the office
quietly as he gently closed the door behind him, before saluting respectfully.
"What are you here for, Soldier?"
"Important news, General Ukai." The tall male lowered his hand from his
temple, walking forward until he was directly in front of his higher up. The
old man raised an eyebrow and leaned forward to rest his elbows on his
surprisingly tidy desk, eyes looking up at his army’s head captain. His fingers
were weaved together, eyeing the far younger man curiously. "What is it you
need to tell me?” Ushijima was quick to respond. "There were rumors going on
about a growing army that's planning to take down the Empire, said to be
located on the Eastern Side- The Forest of Giant Trees. So I gathered a group
and we set out to see if these sayings were true, it turns out that they are."
There was a pregnant pause, the dark colored eyed soldier remained stoic
as ever, inhaling deeply when Ukai motioned for him to continue. "There's
hundreds of them, General. And, it's said that The Rebellion- is what they're
called- is still growing. We've seen the firearms they have a hold of, and the
people that are actively involved with them. They're dangerous, General, an
actual threat unlike the Imperial Guardians." There was a small snicker that
came from General Ukai, embarrassing times, yes?
"I see... Is that all, Ushijima?" The gray haired General asked as he
leaned back into his comfortable, plush chair, exhaling rather deeply. Ushijima
shook his head. "They have plans to attack in a week's time, at dusk, coming
from the North." Dark olive colored locks flew upward when Ushijima blew out a
huff of air. "But I have a feeling they'll also come from the East, so we
should set up some defenses on both of those sides. What do you think,
General?" The question hung in the air and silence took over. Ukai smirked as
he drank in the other's rather stoic features. "Then get to it, soldier, we
can’t risk the lives of our people."
Ushijima gave a firm nod, saluting once again before exiting the room at
a brisk pace. After the soft clickof the door closing, General Ukai twirled
around in his chair, looking out of the large window took up the entire wall
behind his desk. His brown orbs looked out onto the training grounds, watching
soldiers doing their daily workout and bustling about, doing their job. “He
sure knows a lot, doesn’t he?”
                                       -
"Captains and Vice-Captains gather up." Ushijima deep voice boomed out
as he walked into the conference room, where all of the Captains and Vice-
Captains laid about. Oikawa Toru, a rival of Ushijima since middle school,
stuck his nose in the air, mocking out nasally. "We’re not having another
idiotic Captains meeting about soldiers jacking off in the showers again are
                                     we?”
"Why don’t you do as I said and wait for me to tell you." Ushijima
interrupted, his voice monotonous. "These are direct orders from the General
himself, but if you do not wish to comply, I could always go and tell him that
you do not wish to abide." Oikawa was the first to shoot up, walking quickly to
the metal rectangular table in the middle of the white room and taking a seat.
His large brown eyes looked at the other Captains, "What are you waiting for?"
He exclaimed. "This is urgent business!" snickers came from the others. They
followed Oikawa's footsteps, some just rolling their eyes as they did so. "So,
Ushiwaka-kun, what're the orders?" Kuroo asked, leaning forward to rest his
head in his large, calloused hands.
There were hums of agreement from the others, and the said male sat
himself at the head of the table. "The Rebellion is attacking in a week's time,
from the South and West. We're to gather all of the troops and bring them there
and move the civilians closer to Central Empire. The General wants us to get to
work now." The Captains and Vice-Captains nodded in reply, a loud 'Sir!'
escaping their mouths as they all rushed out, with one exception. With the
conference room empty, save for the two men now inside, silence rung in the
air. "Vice-Captain Ichimaru, this is your chance to turn back now." Ushijima
offered as he rose from his seat, you however remained seated.
Narrow eyes looked over your calloused hands as you spoke quietly.
"Captain, I've never been so sure. This wretched Empire is corrupt from the
inside- the heart of this strong Alliance. Central Empire must fall, and the
Rebellion can help do just that- they will do just that. Do not forget that
weare the ones who thought of this idea, and not to mention that you spilled
our actual plans to the General... We will not falter, we are equipped with the
strongest of men, the Rebellion will come out victorious, and we can change
this Empire to the better once the royal family and their stupid beasts die."
You thought aloud, the action caused the Special Operations Captain to scoff.
                              "And, your family?"
"They are loyal to monsters, Captain. They are puppets- beasts. And,
they will face the bitter consequences." You paused, eyebrows furrowing. "I-
I do not wish to harm them, Captain... But ridding the world of these foul
beings is the right thing to do, even if your family is part of them."  A
chuckle escaped the lips of the usual stoic Ushijima, startling you. With wide
eyes, you watched the male smile to himself as he approached your lean form. He
leaned down, lips barely grazing your ear. "You're very loyal, (F/n). I like
that." The compliment made you shiver. "Tell your dear wife Kiyoko that she is
very lucky to have you." You tried to stuttered out a response, but he was
                                 already gone.
Southern Empire, Japan     Year: 784 (Approx. 10 Years Ago)
                                  December 27
                               "No one in sight. Over."
                            "Not over here either. Over."
Just outside of the cement walls, Ushijima watched hundreds of Alliance
soldiers stay absolutely still in their positions, fingers positioned on the
trigger of their weapons as they waited for the first sign of the Rebellion.
You stood beside the shorter male, eyes locked forward as you leaned down to
speak into the intimidating man's ear, eyes locked onto Sawamura Daichi and
Matsukawa Issei in the distance. "They'll be here in almost an hour, what are
your orders, Captain?" Ushijima huffed through his nose, olive eyes flickering
up to look at you. "Gather the others and lead them to the North, join them in
the fray. I'm going to pay General Ukai a quick visit." Nodding, you walked
over to Ohira Reon and the other Rebels.
Despite the extremely long walk to Central Empire, the Head Captain made
it to the General’s office in just twenty-seven minutes. Not even bothering to
knock, he walked inside the office, eyes widening when he saw Ukai sitting on
his desk, a pistol pointed straight at the traitor. “I should have known
something was going on, Ushijima, too bad I only found out just a few minutes
ago when you were leading them to the South.” He clicked his tongue, pushing
himself off the carving of wood and making way to his most trusted soldier.
Ushijima spoke with no respect, instead with anger and hate. “I don’t
have any plans on calling off the attack either.” He pulled out a golden sabre
dotted with black. Ukai noticed. “A French Sabre, a beautiful weapon. Tell me,
who made that for you? How did you convince them?”
“I have no intention of informing you of anything, Ikkei.” The Rebel hissed, an
intimidating look crossing over his hard features. He stepped forward, dodging
to the right when a bullet flew towards him, embedding itself in the door that
he once stood in front of. “At least tell me this,” They both locked eyes,
sharing the same blood thirsty and sadistic look. “Why?” There was a moment of
silence, until there was a loud bang that shook the floor.
This, however, didn’t faze the two men, instead causing one to rush forward as
the other backed up. It was all happening too quickly. Ukai already had a stab
wound to his hip, Ushijima had a cut on his ear from another missed shot. These
things didn’t deter the two battling killing machines. The screaming, they
could both hear it, they still didn’t stop.
The blood seeping through Ukai’s white uniform was beginning to stain red, the
dark red being a beautiful contrast to the plain white. He fell forward and to
his surprise, Ushijima caught him with a strong, muscular arm. “D-Don’t pity
                            me, boy. I can still-.”
“Who said that I pity you?” Brown eyes widen, mouth open as it sprayed blood
over Ushijima’s face and white uniform. Practically folded around the sabre,
blood dripping down the blade and painting the former Commander’s large,
calloused hands. He pulled out halfway before thrusting back in then finally
pulled out all the way. Crimson flew across the office, staining papers with
                                  the liquid.
Ukai Ikkei dropped to the floor, groaning in pain when he felt a twinge of pain
shoot all throughout his body. “You asked why.” The tall, muscular male put his
sabre back into it sheath before walking over to a chair that was beside a
wooden bookshelf, seating himself as he watched the old man crawl to the window
behind his desk with one hand pressing onto his stab wound.
“The Alliance and the Empire isn’t what I was told that it was.” Ushijima
stated, crossing his thick arms. “You told me that the Empire was always right,
but it isn’t. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer. What about this saying
that everyone’s equal in the Empire? Equal?” He scoffed, shaking his head.
Ushijima watched Ukai reach out, sliding a bloody hand across the window before
looking upwards to see the smoke, fire, and fallen buildings in the distance.
“The poor get captured by the rich, the rich torture the poor, they sell them,
kill them… If the Alliance were doing their job, none of this would be
happening. If the Alliance kept order and justice and took out those
insensitive monsters, we wouldn’t be here right now. People wouldn’t be out
there dying, you wouldn’t be dying.”
“And, I had to be killed for you to prove your point?” Ukai growled, glaring at
the man he trusted the most. A shake of the head was what he got. Before Ukai
could yell out, he was thrown into a coughing fit, blood spilling from his open
mouth and onto the wood floor underneath him.
“You think I killed you to prove my point?” Ushijima questioned, somewhat
flabbergasted. “I killed you because you’re equally as guilty as those who
killed the innocent, those who killed for money, glory, for their own want and
need. Maybe even desire. You’re just as guilty as the Royal family. You knew
what was happening, but you failed to raise your own hand against those
                          monsters. Now tell me wh-.”
“That’s where you’re wrong.” The General coughed out, gasping for much needed
air as he turned himself to look at the man in the chair. “Not everyone in the
Royal family’s guilty… The Princess, Hitoka… She has no idea of any of this.
It’s Empress Madoka, who told me to not raise my hand, to not inform others…
She’s why the Emperor died, but she threatened us to not spill a word.” He
didn't deny the fact that he's guilty.
“Death must be getting to you already, you’re beginning to talk nonsense.”
Pushing himself up off of the cushiony seat, Ushijima strided over to the
fallen General, a grim look on his face. “This wretched place will fall, and
those who deserve Eden will receive it when this is all over.”
A long pause. Deaf ears finally heard the screams, gunshots, and explosions.
Ushijima Wakatoshi smiledat that. “Now let me put you out of your misery.” His
sabre pierced through through the head of the now former general, nicking the
ground. He pulled out, sheathed his sword, and like nothing happened, he exited
                              to gather his men.
From there, they retreated to the Forest of Giant Trees with no casualties nor
deaths. There, the Alliance lost barely less than half of their men and their
                                  commander.

Welcome to the Siege of Betrayal

Chapter Summary
10 years later, after multiple loses of both battles and men, after
staying on the defense for two years, new recruits finally come
     forward.
Central Empire, Japan     Year: 794 (Present Day)
                                  December 20
Heartbreaking goodbyes were exchanged between teary eyed family members, all
except for one group, who were standing tall, forcefully pushing back their
salty tears. A family that lived in the field that was closer to isolation and
the walls that separates them from the outside, save for the few neighbors just
down the dirt road. A seventeen year old boy holds the hands of his baby sister
and his ill mother, his eyes were glassy, but he still smiled.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be back when all of this is over.” He spoke seriously, his
usual carefree attitude replaced with a vast amount of maturity that no one
would expect from him. “But Moriko, what if you don’tcome back?” His not very
clueless sister, Saya looked up at him with big teary brown eyes, bottom lip
trembling furiously as she tried to not sob and throw herself in her big
brother’s arm. She was a big girl now, only fourteen years old. She’s grown so
                                     much.
Their mother, a rather young looking woman despite being almost in her mid-
fifties, gasped at her daughter’s bluntness. “Saya, don’t say such things!” She
looked up at her youngest son with an upset look, and like that, the tears
began to flow. “H-He’ll come back. Won’t you?” Like a domino effect, the two
siblings began to sob hysterically, and Moriko enveloped his only truefamily in
his arms. He didn’t have the voice to answer, but decided to make a noise in
the back of his throat as a sign of ‘yes’.
They stayed together for a few more minutes, bidding their goodbyes before he
left. Right before he began to walk away and down the dirt road, he hugged Saya
and pressed a kiss to the crown of her head, and to his mother he gave a bear
hug and a voice cracking ‘goodbye’.
Such a strong family being broken down because of a war. How heartbreaking.
One the tall teen finally stepped foot on the gravel road, he turned to look
back at his family, who were waving at him frantically while hugging each
other. Moriko waved back, hesitantly turning away, but yelping a bit when
someone practically tackled him. Brown eyes a raven colored bangs was all that
he needed to see before knowing who it was. “Goshiki-.”
“Nice seein’ ya, Ichimaru!” He exclaimed, he tried to smile, Moriko knew, but
despite trying to he failed. The red around both of their eyes revealed how
they truly failed. “I told you to call me Moriko, Goshiki.” The grey eyed teen
smiled gently, patting the older man's shoulder. He glanced over at Goshiki’s
mother, who was on their porch crying her eyes out, loud cries escaping her
                                 parted lips.
And, suddenly the two teens found themselves bawling their eyes out, hugging
each other tightly. At the sound of approaching footsteps, they both pulled
away from each other, looking at who stood before them. Naoyasu stared at them
blankly, but he spoke to them, his voice soft and surprisingly comforting.
“We’ll get to see them soon, don’t worry.”
                                       -
It took a little over an hour for them to make it to the designated area. The
training grounds located just behind the Yachi Castle.
“It amazes me that only seven of us joined out of a whole division.” Moriko
stated, watching as Aoi and three others walked past them and to the dirt
grounds where others stood from the Northern, Western, and Eastern divisions.
“It’s shameful really!” Goshiki exclaimed, clenching his jaw. “Everyone should
be willing to fight for their beloved Empire!”
Naoyasu looked back at them before sighing heavily, stopping beside a tall,
slender blond with glasses. They nodded at each other, but after that ignored
                          each other like the plague.
In front of the volunteers stood six men all dressed in plain white uniforms,
their weapons, which concluded of two pistols on their thighs, at their sides.
One of them, the General, stepped forward, a grim look set upon his face. The
bright yet upsetting aura turning serious in the mass of two seconds. “My name
is Ukai Keishin, General of the Alliance. I have a few words that I’d like to
                              share with you all.
“One, just because you’re standing here doesn’t mean that you’re immediately
part of the Alliance, if you pass our series of tests then you’re officially
part of the team. If you fail one test, give up, or die, then you don’t make
                                     it.”
An orange haired boy winced. “Harsh.” He squeaked. General Ukai continued to
speak, and he locked eyes with Moriko and no one missed the way his eyes
narrowed or how his voice got tight. “And, two, if any of you have the thought
of joining the Rebellion we will kill you. Other than that,” He looked away and
his eyes flew over the rather small group of trainees.
“You will be given a series of tests, two or three from each section. The
Alliance is a group of highly intelligent individuals, so if you’re an idiot or
you don’t try at anything, leave now while you still can.
“The tests will be given in this sequence, first the Medical and Informations
‘training’, next is the Sniper ‘training’, then there’s Stealth, and finally
Special Operations. You don’t have to excel in any of them, just pass, that’s
all I ask. After that, you will be divided into the group that you fit most,
and that’s when the real training begins. But you will be focusing on your
division more than anything, and after that we will be heading into battle.”
Ukai went to walk back, but stopped himself. He turned once again, clenching
his jaw when he stared at a petite blonde standing next to a tall ravenette
with blue eyes. “If the Rebellion decides to attack before we finish everything
then we willfight. I don’t care if you don’t have the experience, all that you
should be thinking of when that happens is your family, how to survive, and the
people inside these walls. Do you understand?”
There was only an estimated count of one hundred people standing on the dirt
grounds, but with the chorus of ‘Yes Sir!’s’ it sounded like an army of one
thousand. General Ukai and the Captains felt a rush of happiness flow through
their veins, and they smiled at that. “That’s good.” Ukai called out, his smile
contagious as others began to smile also. “Now I have some business to attend
to, Head Captain Oikawa will inform you all of what’s to happen.” One more look
at Moriko before he turned and began to walk away. “I wish you all the best of
                                    luck.”
Several pairs of eyes turned to look at the tall ravenette that had a small
scowl on his face, but he shook it off when Goshiki looked at him funny. Blond
boy with the glasses smirked over at him, but the guy’s brown eyes flickered
over to Naoyasu, who had a dark and intimidating look on his face. Glasses
raised a thin eyebrow and gave a mocking smile.
“Hello~. I’m Head Captain Oikawa Toru, former Captain of the Sniper Unit.” The
thirty-eight year old walked forward with a smile plastered onto his lips,
hands clasped together and pulled up to his built chest. His famous cowlick was
messy, but he didn’t pay any mind. “I’ll tell you all where you’ll be sleeping,
okay~?” No one made a noise, and Oikawa sweatdropped at the silence. There were
crickets chirping. Did crickets chirp at noon?
“Funny thing is that the barracks are located inside of the Castle on the third
floor, you all are so lucky to have such a kind and caring Empress~. The left
side of the floor is where the men sleep, the right is the women’s. You take
your daily baths, which is on the bottom floor in the back. The kitchen is on
the second floor in the middle of the floor. And, that’s all that you need to
                          know about your ‘comfort’.
“The test starts from when you wake up in the morning and to when we say that
the test is over, so even when you go to rest your heads on those fluffy
pillows, if you didn’t hear us say the test is over, then don’t think you’ll be
getting much sleep. Not only do the tests show if you’re good enough to be in
the Alliance, it shows off your endurance and tolerance.
“If you pass all the tests, then that’s when the training begins. Starts from
when we wake you up in the morning until you go to bed. And, when all that’s
done and over with, that’s when we get down to business. Sound like a plan?”
Oikawa’s brown eyes looked all around the people in front of him, smiling
                              sweetly. “Yes sir!”
“Ah~! Now that sounds like some good soldiers to me doesn’t it!? But tell me,
does the possibility of dying not scare you?” A tense air fell upon the crowd
of seventeen and eighteen year olds, making them all either shift uncomfortably
or stare with a blank look on their faces. It wasn’t a question to be answered,
they all knew that, all except for four people.
                                   “No sir!”
Startled looks were given to the four boys who were all surprisingly near each
other. A tall one with green eyes, one with bright orange hair, another one
with ‘cool’ bangs, and one that all the older soldiers despised. Haiba Lev,
Hinata Shoyo, Goshiki Tsutomu, and Ichimaru Moriko all had a determined look on
their faces, jaws clenched and eyes ablaze. Oikawa almost wanted to laugh, but
he didn't. He praised them instead. “That sounds like some dedicated men over
                              there, doesn’t it?”
A loud agreement from Bokuto Kotaro. “Now, let’s get down to business. Captain
Kuroo, if you would please take the stage~.” The bed head raised an eyebrow as
he made way to the front, crossing his arms when he got to his spot. Narrow
brown eyes pierced through the soul of a certain someone located near the front
of the crowd, and she almost collapsed from the intense look.
“My name is Captain Kuroo Tetsuro from the Medical and Informations Squad, and
the pudding head over there is my Vice-Captain Kozume Kenma. We will be in
charge of your first three tests.” He called out, pointing at a lean man that
stood far behind the Captains, along with five others. “Your first test is to
see if you can one, dissect a human body and figure out what the cause of death
was and the tell-tale signs, the second if you would be able to perform any
medical procedures on the field. And, the third is to see if you’re a good
                   finding information, hacking, and such.”
He looked around, pursing his lips as he studied each young adult. “I’ll take a
group of ten with me to the designated testing area, so… You eight.” He pointed
randomly at eight people, all looking at him in surprise. “What’re your names?”
                               “Haiba Lev, Sir!”
                           “Kageyama Tobio, S-Sir!”
                           “Kindaichi Yutaro, Sir!”
“Y-Y-Yama-g-guchi T-T-Tadashi, S-Sir!” A click of the tongue from the Captain,
                        and Yamaguchi visibly flinched.
                          “I’m Goshiki Tsutomu, Sir!”
                            “Shibayama Yuki, Sir!”
                              “Koganegawa Kanji!”
                             “Onaga Wataru, Sir!”
‘They all look pretty promising, except for Yamaguchi there. So, then… Let’s
                                    have-’
“And, Ichimaru Moriko and Princess Yachi Hitoka, you two also.” Moriko and the
small girl looked up in surprise. Kuroo smirked at the both of them, eyes
scrunching up. “You ten will be the first to go up, consider it your lucky day.
Now, follow me. The rest of you head to the castle. Go take a bath, nap, or
eat, whatever. Just don’t do anything reckless. The other Captains will watch
you.” Without another word, Kuroo took off towards the North, the ones called
                             scrambling after him.
When they got out of ear shot, the whispering began. “The Princess, who thought
                            she’d be able to join!”
“I bet she had to beg her mother to let her join, Empress Yachi is very
                                   strict!”
                                   “I bet!”
“So Ichimaru, huh?” Glasses looked down at Naoyasu, pushing up his specs as he
put a hand on his hip. “Who would’ve guessed he’s related to the Traitor.” He
chuckled, his voice teasing. “Maybe he’s gonna end up joining his brother in
the Rebellion? I mean, he’d be just a lump of dead meat before he’d be able to
join them, but still. It’s gotta run in the family.
“Speaking of running in the family, doesn't it run in yourfamily?” Naoyasu gave
a dangerous glare, but Glasses didn’t stop. “Oh, should I re-word it? I meant,
doesn’t your family keep itin the family?” The usually bored looking male
clenched his fists, swallowing a was of spit. “I mean, wasn’t that how you were
                                    born?”
“I believe that’s enough, Tsukishima.” A calm voice interrupted Naoyasu
lurching forward to slam his fist against Tsukishima’s nose. They both turned
to see Akaashi Keiji perpendicular to them, his gunmetal colored eyes holding
disappointment. “Your mother has informed me of many great things from you,
Tsukishima. Though I don’t recall her ever mentioning that you had a habit of
                              provoking people.”
“Who said that I had a habit? Captain Akaashi?”
Naoyasu, despite his bored face, was just a tad bit confused. ‘They know each
                                    other?’
“Akiteru informed me of your habits, Tsukishima.” Akaashi turned to Naoyasu,
bowing. “I’m sorry that such insults were thrown your way. We’ll ensure to give
him a proper punishment.” The un-caring eighteen year old shook his head,
looking Akaashi straight in the eyes. “No it’s fine. I’m used to such childish
remarks and questioning.” He turned to walk away, but stopped before he got too
far. Slowly, Naoyasu turned, his dark eyes clashing with Akaashi’s.
“Thank you, sir.” And, he saluted. A warm smile made its way across the usual
stoic man’s face, and he shook his head. “It’s fine soldier. Go along now, I’m
sure you’re tired. “ As Naoyasu walked towards the castle, along with the other
ninety people, Tsukishima scowled. “He’s a bother.”
“Only because you didn’t get the exact reaction you wanted from him.” Akaashi
turned his head to look at the younger individual, a thick eyebrow raised in
question. The glasses clad male furrowed his thin eyebrows. “I didn’t get the
reaction I wanted because you interrupted, Captain Akaashi.” A mocking smile.
“Then I guess it was a good thing I interfered. Now you go too, be sure to
visit your brother while you’re at it, I’m sure he wants to see you,
                                 Tsukishima.”
Then he was gone. Tsukishima clicked his tongue in annoyance, rage filling his
every being. ‘Like hell I’ll visit that liar.’
                                       -
“This is where those in the Medical and Informations Squad work.” Kuroo lead
the decuplet inside a large building, holding the door open for them before he
took lead in the front once again. The ten looked around for a bit, noticing
that the whole entire building was up of glass. Yachi and Hinata gaped at that.
“Our building is very organized. The bottom floor contains all of our Emergency
Rooms so that it’s easier to have the extremely injured to be tended to with
ease and quickly. The second floor is our regular check up rooms and hospital
rooms, and the third and fourth floor contains all of our high tech stuff.
Computers, Holograms, Projectors.” They were lead to a flight of stairs that
went down into the ground, making all of them shuffle with unease.
“Ah, don’t be scared.” Kuroo laid a hand on Koganegawa’s shoulder, patting it
harshly as a smile etched itself upon his lips. “This is the largest area
within the building.” He walked down, Moriko following after him, Goshiki and
the others doing the same after the two went in first. “This is our lab and
morgue. As you can see.” Kuroo getsured to a large metal door in the far area
of the room. “That’s our morgue.” Then he pointed to the bodies that laid upon
                           rows and rows of gurneys.
“Oh?” Moriko raised his eyebrows, covering his face to block the smell, the one
who didn’t mimic his actions were Kuroo and Haiba. “This right here is our lab.
Undead soldiers are our current project, as they have been for the past
century. We have an idea on how to make them, but we’re trying to get them to
the point where they are developed enough to be able to pass as homosapiens.”
Yamaguchi gagged at that and Yachi furrowed her eyebrows. “Don’t you think
that’s a bit cruel, Captain Kuroo? Don’t you think that the dead would like to
rest peacefully without their body being tampered with and manipulated?”
Kuroo cocked his head to the side, acting as though he was considering her
                           words. “Princess Yachi-.”
                           “It’s Yachi, just Yachi.”
Kuroo cleared his throat, smirking right before he began to speak. “Well,
Yachi, I thought the same exact thing when I joined twenty-one years ago, but
you see, when you become a scientist and rationalist like me, you brush those
thoughts to the side. Science is the truth- the answer to everything, though I
may admit that some things can’t be proven by science.
“You’re a very religious person, I can tell Yachi. But if you wish to join my
squad, that needs to be changed.”
“I-I believe that I can still be in your squad and have my own beliefs.” Yachi
clenched her jaw, small form shaking like a leaf as the intimidating man loomed
over her, a serious look etched upon his face. “I see.” Was all that Kuroo said
before jerking his head to the side. “Now, follow me.” He walked over to the
doors that lead to the morgue, pressing in a code next to them right before he
opened the heavy chunks of steel.
Haiba looked over the Captain’s shoulder, eyes widening at the sight of
countless bodies. “That’s so many!” He exclaimed, wincing when Moriko sent a
look his way. Kuroo turned to look at them, jumping back when Goshiki, Hinata,
Koganegawa, Yamaguchi, and Kageyama covered their mouths, faces pale. “P-Please
don’t puke! H-Here! Here! These are some surgical masks, they should block out
the stench!” Hurridley, Kuroo passed out the masks to the nauseous boys first,
next handing them to Moriko, Yachi, Shibayama, and Onaga.
He took a pair of gloves off the wall, slapping them onto his hands before
telling the others to do the same. “If you have long hair tie it up, don’t want
to get any of the fluids in your hair.” Yachi, Yamaguchi, and Moriko pulled a
hair-tie off from their wrists, tying their hair up into short ponytails.
They trudged through the morgue, swallowing thickly when Captain Kuroo pulled
one of the bodies from the metal racks. “This one is one of our newest- ah-
patient. We haven’t got the time to examine him, yet, but I have a clear guess
on how he died already. The question is- do you?”
Moriko and Yachi stepped forward, eyeing the body. They noticed that Kuroo was
already beginning to lay out the scalpels and saws on a small side table. The
body wasn’t as mangled as the others that they passed, but it was still
difficult to look at. “The cause of death is probably by the gunshot wound in
the head.” Moriko began. “But that’d be too easy. From what I’ve heard about
the Rebellion, they revel in torturing those they’ve captured, even on the
battlefield.” He concluded, cupping his chin with his hand.
Yachi stood beside him, examining the body. She turned her head towards Kuroo,
who was watching them closely. “Is it alright if I touch him?” He raised his
hands. “I have no complaints, just as long as you don’t disfigure him or touch
                             him without gloves.”
With difficulty, she tried to lift up the body, thanking Moriko when he helped
her. Her brown eyes flew over his back side, stopping when she saw a small hole
in the nape of his neck. “There’s a puncture wound in the nape. The size of a
dime.” She grabbed a pair of tweezers, reaching out for the flashlight, but was
beaten to it by Goshiki. “I’ll help.” He smiled. While they went to work,
Moriko’s eyes trailed to the tag around the body’s ankle, squinting to read the
                                     name.
‘Oh, now that’s interesting.’He mused, a small smile playing on his lips.
Yamaguchi, Hinata, and Kageyama were now standing beside Yachi and Goshiki, all
trying to help and give conclusions in some way. Koganegawa, Shibayama, and
Haiba were all looking at the victim’s documents that were now resting in
Shibayama’s hands. The only one doing something unproductive was the tall, lean
seventeen year old that was now having a staring contest with Captain Kuroo.
With a shrug of his shoulders, he went to examine the other injuries inflicted
onto the person’s body, the wicked smile still glued to his face.
                                       -
Akaashi watched Tsukishima from afar, eyes void of any emotion as he ignored
the pestering owl and watched the blond teenager finger a picture of he, his
mother, and his older brother. Though, the Stealth Captain himself was
fingering at the dog tag that was draped over his large hands. The name
                                   reading-

Rebellion Main HQ, Japan    Year: 794 (Present Day)
                                  December 20

How the hell did this happen? You were strapped to an operating table, Captain
Komori standing beside you with his lips set into a firm, straight line.
Frustrated and filled to the brim with anxiety, you tried to open your mouth to
speak, but instead, came to the realization that your mouth was sewn shut,
small flecks of dried blood flaked around your lips.

“Don’t try anything, it’s not going to work, Head Captain.” Komori spared you a
small glance from cleaning the scalpel, then went back to rubbing it down with
a small piece of cloth. His eyes were narrow, demeanor hard to read. “I’m sure
you’re wondering what’s going on, so I’ll give you a brief explanation.

“Commander Ushijima wants a surgery performed on you to enhance your
performance out on the battlefield. It’s a long procedure, and may take about
twelve hours, maximum, maybe even longer if something goes wrong. Well, if
something goes wrong then you’d be brain dead, but I can still make you useful.
Those classes I went through with ‘Necromancer’ Kuroo won’t be all that useless
                              if that happened.”

He gently placed the surgical equipment down onto the tray beside the operating
table, a small frown beginning to play on his lips as he snapped on a surgical
mask and a pair of matching powder-free latex gloves. He placed an oxygen mask
over your face, turning the gauge of the oxygen tank to put you to sleep. “Just
a bit of anesthesia to put you to sleep, and then the surgery will begin.”

A muffled groan, but sleep bit at you ruthlessly, and you felt it taking you
over, deep into a dark abyss.

                                       -

You woke up with a gasp, sweat beading at your forehead as you sat up straight,
almost throwing up from the nausea that smacked you across the face. Gripping
at your head, you winced when you pressed onto the white bandages wrapped
around your head a bit too hard.

Gingerly, you went to unwrap the gauze bandages when a deep voice stopped you.
“You haven’t fully recoveredyet, please refrain from doing anything idiotic,
such as taking off the thing protecting your stitches.” Ushijima Wakatoshi
stood in the doorway of your room, thick arms crossed over his chest as his
olive colored eyes bore down onto you.

“You should be fully healed by next month, but Captain Komori says to give you
a month and a half to ensure that you’re fully healed. After that, you’ll be
heading out with a handpicked team to invade one of the Empire’s many rich
families and a hideout located South of them. Understood?” Expectant eyes
looked at your sitting form, watching as you nodded. “Yes, Commander. I
                                 understand.”

“Good, for now, rest up. Vice Captain Shimizu will watch over you, but when
she’s busy we’ll send in either Semi or Yamaka. Just know that someone will be
watching over you twenty-four seven.” He saluted, you mocking his actions,
before he left. Just as his large frame left the doorway, a smaller individual
                             walked into the room.

“How are you feeling, Love?” Shimizu pushed up her glasses as she pulled a
chair to your bedside, seating herself on the cushiony seat gently as she took
one of your large hands into hers. There was a few seconds of silence before
you answered, looking over at her with a dull look in your eyes. “I feel light?
But my head’s throbbing, kind of hurts.”

She gave a small frown, pursing her lips as she gave you a concerned look. “The
surgery must have been rough, you’re acting a bit different.” Cocking your head
to the side, your furrowed your eyebrows as you looked down at her.
                                 “Different?”

“You usually whine every time you get hurt, but I guess you just got mature all
                                 of a sudden.”

“I thought I was always mature?”

“Hardly.” She gave you a loving smile, reaching towards you to pat your cheek.
Something sparked in her eyes when she saw your confused look. “Something
wrong, Love?” There was a moment of silence, worry beginning to fill the blue
eyed female as she thought the worst. “What exactly was the surgery for?”

“I’m not sure, I wasn’t informed of anything, just that you were going through
a serious procedure.” Biting your chapped bottom lip, you nodded before talking
to your wife once again. “The last thing I remember is that Captain Komori told
me that it was to ‘enhance my performance out on the battlefield’. I don’t feel
any different though. Did the surgery not work out?”

“Dear, you might have to be out in battle to see if it does.”

                                 “Oh, right.”

                                       -

“He’s finally done healing, but he’s still as idiotic as ever.” Sakusa huffed
under his breath as he watched you converse with Yamaka Mika, a flustered look
on your face as you had a slip of the tongue; which made Yamaka laugh
hysterically much to Daisho’s anger. The snake looked over at the mask clad
man, nodding his head in agreement. “Let’s just hope the dumbass makes some
idiotic decision that leads all of them getting killed.”

“You guys should know better, Head Captain Ichimaru has always been quick
minded and smart on the battlefield. Just because he isn’t the brightest
doesn’t mean that he’s an overall screw up.” Tendo walked up to the two other
Captains, a sigh escaping his lips. Sakusa and Daisho shrugged their shoulders
at the tall man’s statement, knowing that deep down the Special Operations
                          Captain was actually right.

From just outside the main HQ, you stood in the middle of your hand picked
team, all of them circling around you. “We’re attacking the southern hideout at
noon, and after that job’s done then we’ll head back to HQ and restock if need
be. It’s highly likely that the Alliance will send a good chunk of their
soldiers to the hideout, that’s when we can sneak in through the East. It’ll be
open and less guarded since they’ll want to protect the Southern side.”
Observant eyes flickered over to the three Captains in the distance, eyes
hardening when you noticed that they were talking ill of you, but you refrained
                            from taking any action.

“We can head to one of the less well known houses located in the northern part
of Central. After our attack we high tail it home. Sound like a plan?” You
looked at every face of your team, bobbing their heads as they nodded in
confirmation. “Alright let’s move out.” Your team, which consisted of Yamagata,
Kiryu, Shimizu, and Kita, hustled out and towards the thick forest.

“Remember, breaths even, pace yourself. Long, quick strides. Remember, Kita,
keep your weapon clutched to your chest-With! The safety on!” You added, a
sliver of anger shooting up within you as you heard the older man huff. In just
a few minutes HQ was out of sight, hidden behind wide, large trunks of wood.
“The woods may be thick, but if we follow training we should be out of here in
an hour tops. Just follow my lead.”

Despite knowing that your constant rambling was getting annoying, even for you,
it always helped everyone to know that someone was there to keep everyone in
order. Kita wouldn’t admit it, but he does appreciate everything you do even
                        though he’s always complaining.

Thirty minutes in, and the six of you were already halfway through the forest
when you heard someone tumble over. Skidding to a stop, you turned to see
Yamagata flat on his ass. He gulped, tan skin flushed with embarrassment even
though none of you showed any sign of laughing at him. “There was some mud,
                               sorry about th-.”

“Just make sure to rinse off when we head back to HQ.” You sighed, thanking
Kiryu when he helped the short brown haired male get up on his feet. In an
instant, you all began to run like nothing was happening, making it through the
thicket in fifty-six minutes. “I lied.” You huffed, stopping just outside the
clearing. “Fifty-six minutes.” Huffs of amusement.

“Looks like the hideout is approximately sixty meters from here, not too far.”
You quipped. Looking at Shimizu and Kita, you ordered them to get into
position, both of them climbing the trees to hide. After hearing the click of
Kita’s safety, that’s when you motioned for Kiryu, and Yamagata to move out.

Exactly seventy-eight steps and the trio made it to the hideout without being
caught. Pressed against the dark wood, you signaled Kiryu to head towards the
back entrance, while Yamagata headed towards the front, and you began to climb
up the walls in a stealthy manner. You froze when you saw someone laying down
on the roof, cigarette placed between his lips as he puffed out smoke as he
stared up at the pitch black sky.

‘Watari Shinji, a soldier part of Kuroo’s unit. An outstanding soldier, no
doubt.’A click of the tongue, and you silently pulled yourself onto the flat
roof, quickly making way towards the lounging male. You stopped yourself at the
head of the oblivious man’s head, the only thing visible being the burning tip
of the cancer stick. But he saw the outline of your shadow against the dark
that surrounded him, and before he could let out a shout, you pulled out a
bowie knife, slamming it against his head to the point it nicked the wood below
                                     you.

Blood splattered across your cheek, dribbling down Watari’s face and soaking
through the wood. You could hear loud shouts of ‘What the hell!’ and that’s
when you spoke into the comm. “Move out!” Just as those words left your lips,
rapid gunfire was heard alongside screams of agony. With five strong stomps,
you fell through the ceiling, landing with a thud. Closing your eyes, you took
a deep breath of air before opening your eyes and attacking. You lunged at a
guy that was located in the far corner, flying past Kiryu who was beating the
living shit out of, who you recognized as, Kyoutani Kentaro.

Yaku Morisuke, a rather small yet fierce soldier that worked under
Sugawara Koushi, sprinted at you also, slipping a jagged dagger into his hand
before going to take a swipe at you. Diligently dodging the attack, you kicked
the smaller yet older soldier into the corner of a counter, reveling in the
sound of his pained cough as one of his ribs broke.

While he was too busy grabbing at his side, you used the same knife that you
used on the man that was now currently laying under the pile of wood on the
floor, to stab through Morinsuke’s nape. He immediately went limp, slumping to
the floor as wide eyes stared down at the puddle of blood underneath him.

That was when you heard a shout coming behind you. A tall man with deep brown
eyes and blonde hair was running full speed at you. You braced for impact but
it never came, instead the small ‘ping!’ of a bullet and the thud of the man’s
body smacking the floor. There was a small hole in the wall just across from
the now dead man. “Thanks for the cover, Kita.” You huffed, looking over your
shoulder to see Kiryu and Yamagata hovering over two limp bodies.

“Body count?” You heard Shimizu ask, and you replied with a satisfied grin.
“All five are down, let’s restock.” As the six of you met along the tree line,
you saw Kita’s distressed expression, making you furrow your eyebrows in
                         question. “Something wrong?”

“It’s exactly twenty-one: forty-seven, and we did make a bit of a ruckus,
there’s a high chance that someone could of heard us.”

“Well if that’s the case, then let’s get our asses to HQ.”

                                       -

“I assume that the mission went out perfectly?”

“Only half of it, Commander. We came back to restock.” You explained to
Ushijima, who nodded at your words. “Any reason as to why you just didn’t head
out to the Empire and took out one of the rich families?”

“There’s a high chance that the Alliance and the Empire are on edge right now
and are currently on the lookout. We plan to restock on bullets and clean up
the blood before heading out at twenty four exactly. Everyone will be asleep at
that time except for the Guards, so it should be easy to get in and out
quickly.” The both of you walked alongside each other through the cafeteria,
rebels left and right stopping what they were doing to salute at the both of
you before going back to their business.

“Sounds good, Head Captain. And, a quick question, did you feel any different
                          at all during the attack?”

“Nothing, Sir. It wasn’t that big of a fight in all honesty, so it’s not like I
                                 would have.”

“I see. Well rest up before you head out there, I want to make sure that all of
you are in excellent shape by the time you head out.”

                                  “Yes sir.”

                                       -

                               Twenty-Four Sharp

You and your team lingered on the high wall of the Empire, looking down at the
guards that ran by every fifteen minutes. Yamagata looked over at you, cracking
his knuckles. “Move out as planned, Head Captain?”

“No.” There were looks of surprise, your wife gaping at you. “No?”

“They’re paying more attention to the entrances right now, we’ll attack a
family more inwards, they’ll be more vulnerable. After we do our job, it’ll be
easier to head back to HQ. Got it?”

                                  “Yes sir.”

                              “But which family?”

There was a long pause, each on of the soldiers looking at you expectantly. A
dark look crossed over your face, and Kiryu felt his heart beat increase with
                                     fear.

                                A wicked smile.

A crazy look in your eyes.

You licked at your lips as your sharp teeth shone in the little light the
                            covered moon provided.

                         “Let’s visit the Ukais. Yes?”
